Sector Overview

Carrying out Risk assessments has become an important step for an Insurer. But what is Risk Engineering?

Put simply, the job of the Risk engineer is to visit sites across the world to give their expert views to the underwriter before they decide to take on the risk. A trained engineer who can see the faults of a mine/oil rig/building etc can save an Insurer millions on a risk, hence why some of the best insurers focus on this area.
However others will rely on Brokers to carry out the Risk assessment and take on their opinions to assess whether they should be writing the business or not.

The key positive and negative in a role like this is the travel aspect, some love it, others won’t. This market is covered by F Squared from entry level (which is rare given the graduate schemes on offer) to the Head of Engineering.
